When I was a  kid none of my class mates or anyone I knew had Autism, Crohn’s, Allergies or any other chronic diseases. Very few of my classmates were overweight, we got mumps and measles as short lived childhood diseases and we all seemed oh so healthy.

Boy how this has changed in the last 50 years!

As an example Autism has gone from 1 in 5000 in the 1960’s to 1 in 36 now.

That is a 140 fold increase in just 60 years.

The rates of ADHD, allergies, obesity cancer have all gone up enormously.

What has changed?

Could it be our food?

Could it be the so called fertilizers that push crops beyond their natural limits and eventually kill the soil.

Could it be poisons like herbicides and pesticides that are liberally sprayed on the food we are going to eat.

How about the overuse of antibiotics or even man made GMO crops that only seem to maximize the profits of a few large multinationals to the detriment of our health.

Maybe it’s the way our food is processed, the food additives heat treatment homogenization and irradiation to extend shelf life.

Who knows the cause, but it appears that the root cause is money.

The making of money seems to be more important than our health.

Corporations want to maximize profits by selling even more synthetic fertilizers, poisons and GMO seeds.

Farmers want to maximize yields and reduce costs.

Food processors try to produce great tasting food while reducing costs with additives and technology.

Shop keepers want shelf stable products that sell well.

And we the end consumer want cheap plentiful tasty food.

But what about health, human health and the health of our environment.

Over the next few weeks I would like to explore this in a few more blogs.
